So, yesterday we went to Indiana with Nathan's parents. Our plan was to eat out somewhere fun, go swimming at the hotel pool, and then wake up Wednesday and spend the day at the Children's Museum (pictures of this to follow). Nathan's parents had a room adjoining ours at the hotel. So here we are at night trying to get Chloe to sleep in a "big girl bed" so Luke can use the pack and play. She's doing great. I am going back and forth between our room and Nathan's parents' room to check on her. Just as I think she's finally asleep I head back to Nathan's parents' room and close the door behind me...only to realize that I have just locked us out of our own room. (If you're familiar with adjoining hotel rooms, you know you can only open the door between the rooms from your own side. So I could open Nathan's parents' side but not ours.) Not only had I shut this door, but earlier I had put the chain lock and the deadbolt on the door from our room to the hallway so that Chloe wouldn't wake up and open it and so no one else could get in.... so, you see our delima. Needless to say I had such a sinking feeling and had mild panic setting in. Nathan went to get help from downstairs and I finally started calling to Chloe through the door. "Chloe, can you hear Mommy? Climb down off the bed sweetie and come try to open the door to Grandma's room." If you've heard Chloe talk lately you know her voice is very soft spoken so I couldn't hear her to know if she'd heard me. I kept talking to her while the man came up to help us. He tried a few things with the door between our rooms and then we saw the doorknob jiggle. Chloe was on the other side trying her best to open it but couldn't. So the maintenance man asked if she could open the other door. I told him the deadbolt was locked but he said opening it from the inside automatically undid that and that if she could open it a little, he could cut the chain. So we called through the door and asked Chloe to try to open the door to the hallway. Much to my relief she was able to do this. I was so glad to see her through the crack in the door as we waited for the man to get the tools to cut the chain. Finally we got back in our room and a new chain was installed. Undoubtedly Mommy was more shaken by this than Chloe who likes to repeat the story, "I was in my big girl bed and I hear Mommy say, 'Chloe, get off the bed and open the door!' " Praise God that it wasn't Luke in there by himself or that Chloe wasn't in the pack and play where she wouldn't have been able to come to the door and that Chloe is a good listener and obeys her Mommy. The rest of the trip went off without a hitch :)

Janna,I can imagine the panic you must have felt with not being able to get to your children. Thank God that it all worked out and you all were able to enjoy the rest of you trip. I would love to here Chloe tell the story.
That sounds like no fun at all! I am glad that it all worked out!
I am so sorry Janna! It sounds like our Growing Kids God's Way classes are paying off though!
Whew! This is totally something that would happen to me. In fact, I did lock myself out of the house a couple of weeks ago and had to have Anna let me in, so I feel for you. Excited to see your pics of the museum and hear about your experience.
